What is a Colored Gemologist?
Share
GIA stands for the Gemological Institute of America, a nonprofit organization that specializes in the study of gemstones and jewelry:
Authority: The GIA is a world-leading authority on diamonds, pearls, and other gems.
Certification: GIA certification is a mark of quality, authenticity, and trustworthiness for gemstones. April Sims has the Colored Gemstone Gemologist certification from GIA.
A colored gemstone certification is for every non-diamond gemstone. Most of our expertise is determining rare gemstones, visual differences in natural vs synthetic stones and identifying the stones that have been manufactured to deceive customers.
The majority of gemstones have been treated or heated to improve its appearance and a gemologist can identify what has been done to a gemstone.
Larger or more expensive gemstones should be identified by GIA laboratories with a certification. Let us help in determining if your jewelry would benefit from being fully identified.
